The second national activity and consultation day took place on April 3rd at the Malvern Outdoor Education Centre. A total of 53 adults and children, including staff, participated in a range of activities both inside and outdoors.

The weather was perfect - warm and blue skies.

Carers had come from all parts of England, some making very early starts to get the best out of the day.

Activities started at about 11am when Pete Johnson opened up the ‘Trading Post’. Families worked together on tasks that demanded all sorts of creative skills.

‘How are we doing?’

Hidden amongst these were opportunities to comment on how FCC was ‘performing’ as an agency. Some of the comments received highlighted the good things about FCC - ‘fantastic social workers; great days out; Christmas dinner and bowling’.

We also put up two graffiti sheets and encouraged adults and children to write on these, again inviting comments about FCC.

‘Working together’

The important aspect of this part of the day was that foster families worked together on fun things and there were opportunities for adults and children to make their views known about the agency if they wanted to.

By the end of the morning we had videos made of advertising FCC, painted eggs and home made bags, amongst many other things.

A good lunch of hot and cold items was provided by the Centre which was enjoyed by all. Everyone had plenty to eat before the afternoon outdoor activities began.

‘Activities for all’

The Centre instructors took groups of families to the four activities available – the High Poles, the Low ropes, the climbing wall and the zip wire.

These activities meant that all age groups could participate in some way. Great achievements were made by the children and young people as they challenged themselves to do scary things.
At 4.45pm, we had to call it a day.

Thank you to all the foster families and staff who made it such a lovely day.
