What's going on?

This year award winning novelist and life coach Siobhan Curham will be judging the entries. She has written books for adults, young adults and children – both fiction and non-fiction – and has publishing deals in the UK, France and Germany. She is also a regular contributor to newspapers, magazines and websites and has featured on various TV and radio shows, including the BBC news, BBC Breakfast, GMTV and Woman’s Hour. She is the author of the 'Shipwrecked' series, which is being adapted for BBC… eight dance students, one mysterious stranger and a steamy tropical island harbouring a sinister secret.

The annual short story competition is back! Every year The Foster Care Co-operative runs a short story competition for all children living as part of a foster family. This includes both foster children and the birth children of our foster carers.

The competition is split into 4 categories: Age 5-7, age 8-10, Age 11-13 and Age 14 plus.

Everyone who enters will receive a £5 book voucher, and their work will be published and professionally bound into a book alongside the other entries. Each age category will have a runner up, getting a £15 book voucher and the winner a Kindle. There will also be an overall winner receiving an iPad.

There is only one rule – the story must be at least one side of an A4 piece of paper, using a maximum of two sides. The story can be typed, hand written and drawings can also be incorporated as long as it does not exceed a quarter of the page.

Plus there is no theme; fact or fiction, anything can be included. The story must be the childs own work, although a family member, teacher or foster carer can help type it or make it readable. Only one story can be entered.

The last submission date will be on Friday 19th September, giving the children the summer holidays to create the idea.

Good luck to all the entrants!
