Another successful Family Fun Day!
Thank you to everyone who attended our Family Fun day on Wednesday 29th July - we had a lovely time.

The rain didn’t stop us from watching a wonderful performance of Beauty and the Beast at the Everyman Theatre. Then we went for a BBQ at Y Mochyn Du.

Thank you to our fantastic staff Michelle, Lizzy & Kim for face painting and for everyone making our day another special one to remember!

FCC Children's stories published!

FCC Children's stories published!

Foster children and birth children of FCC’s carers will get to see their stories published in books entitled ‘Short Stories & Tall Tales’.

FCC delivers 'Parent & Child Together' (PACT) training!
The need for more 'parent and child together' (PACT) fostering placements (sometimes referred to as 'mother and baby' placements) appears to be rapidly increasing. However, this is a very specialist area of work as there is often a lot of complexity around the legal status and requirements of the placement.

At FCC we realise that the success and stability of our placements relies on us ensuring that our dedicated foster carers are properly equipped to take on specialist work such as this and that we therefore need to provide them with the necessary support, skills, knowledge and understanding to help them in promoting positive outcomes for children.

Two of our highly experienced 'PACT' approved carers, Maureen and Paula along with their Supervising Social Workers recently assisted the Director for Child Care - Wales in facilitating some training for our foster carers who were interested in being approved to take these types of specialist placements in the future.

Very positive feedback was given about this course and we therefore wanted to say a big 'thank you!' to Maureen and Paula. However, we also wanted to thank the carers who attended to undertake this training course as their enthusiasm to learn about this specialist area of work made it an absolute pleasure to run the course.
FtSE urge change over Children's Rights

The Foster Care Co-operative fully supports the statement below from FtSE - the member organisation for not-for-profit independent fostering providers) - calling for Children's Rights to 'be at the very heart of care planning'.

Ian Brazier, FCC's Executive Director, said: "In all the challenges and complexities which come with the care of children it is vital that we remember their fundamental rights and needs. We must not be overwhelmed or consumed in our processes and bureacracy and lose the essential basic humanity these vulnerable children so desperately need.”

FCC run writing workshop for children

FCC Wales are proud to be hosting a Creative Writing workshop in August in order to help and inspire both foster and birth children.

Three fantastic Post Graduate, Under Graduate, English and Drama students (pictured above) have designed a workshop to help with this year’s ‘Short Story Competition’ – which is an annually run writing competition for the children of FCC’s carers.

The workshops will help the children explore the setting and characters of their stories – and will involve plenty of fun games, as well as the opportunity to make some new friends!

Every child who enters the competition receive a £5 book token, and there are some smashing prizes up for grabs including an iPad Mini. The stories are also compiled into a book, which is given to all entrants.

FCC launches Short Story Competition!
The Foster Care Co-operative have launched their annual short story competition, aimed at both foster children and birth children of their carers.

Last year, judging duties were undertaken by published author Siobhan Curham - and FCC are pleased to announced that Siobhan has kindly agreed to be this year's judge!

The standard of writing of previous entries has been extremely high, and FCC hope that this year’s entries will be no exception!

Every child who enters receives a £5 book token, and there are some smashing prizes up for grabs including an iPad Mini. The stories are also compiled into a book, which is given to all entrants.

Co-operative of the Year nomination!

Co-operative of the Year nomination!

Well, we didn't win 'Co-operative of the Year' - congratulations to Midcounties Co-operative who did. Nevertheless we were thrilled to have been one of the nine organisations shortlisted - and remarkably one of two nominees from our hometown of Malvern, Worcestershire.

Ed Mayo, Co-operatives UK secretary general, said: “All nine of our shortlisted co-operatives would have been worthy winners in their own right. With almost 7,000 co-operatives across the UK, it is remarkable that two of the nine shortlisted co-ops are based in Malvern.

“Both Jamboree and the Foster Care Co-operative stand out because of the huge impact they have on the lives of individuals. And we are talking about potentially very vulnerable members of our society. They are both fantastic examples of why co-ops work. The figures at The Foster Care Co-operative speak for themselves.

“To achieve stable placements that last more than six times the national average is incredible and demonstrates how a model based on high quality carer training - and ultimately putting the needs of children first - works."
